Self-Esteem

  • 2020-07-19

You all must have heard about Self Esteem, right? But do you really know what exactly does it mean, what is its importance, how much importance does it hold in our lives and how can we improve it? This concept is worth knowing about as in this generation this feeling is a must to have. Let me tell you what self-esteem is –

‘Self-esteem is a sense of having personal value or worth. It means that how much you appreciate and like yourself and consider yourself the best of all.’

“The way I look is good.”

“My dressing sense is worth attracting.”

“I’m a hardworking and cooperative colleague of the company.”

'Valuing yourself is not a crime or obsession, it’s just a way to show a little love to yourself’ – SELF ESTEEM

You might have realized through these examples what self-esteem is and feels like.

The best example of having high self-esteem can be Geet from the film Jab We Met by the dialogue she always says –

“Main Apni Favorite Hoon” and we relate to it in a much better way.

When you have high self-esteem, you have a sense of security and worth within yourself in any adverse situation you face, you will build positive and strong relationships with others, be more confident, you are assertive in your thoughts and decision if you feel they are correct, you remain realistic in your expectations, be able to cope with stressors of your life in a better way and be more resilient.

Having low self-esteem can make your life tougher and painful. Its deficiency makes you feel worthless and less valued. You will feel under-confident in your abilities, you will miss attractive opportunities, will remain alone without any strong relationship, have issues emotionally and socially, and thus can be prone to disorders like depression because of so much loneliness and problems in life.

Our stress esteem influencers can vary comprising of not only our genes but also our personality, life experiences, health, age, thoughts, social environment, etc.

Low self-esteem is not a stigma or an incurable disease, it can be improved by applying some ways in your life.

They can be –

1) You should be able to recognize what you are good at, what are your hobbies that can help boost your confidence and mood.

2) Try to meet people who are filled with positivity and build positive relationships with them and try avoiding people who want to turn you down or devalue you.

3) Stop thinking about others and start loving yourself. Try to be gentle and praise yourself for what you are and a belief that you are self-sufficient in anything you are doing.

4) Do respect others’ opinions and needs and expect the same from them. Try to develop the real you after observing others’ advice and ideas you admire.

5) Learn to say NO on the advice or ideas of other people if they are not right or harmful. Remember that it will not affect your relationship instead it will strengthen and improve it.

6) Take new challenges in your life by having self-confidence and trust in yourself that you can do everything in the best way.

This is how you can boost your self-esteem and be the person you want to be in your life with a belief that you are worthy and valued in your own eyes.

Editor’s note: Self-esteem is not given or developed by someone for you, it is grown and developed by yourself.  You should be able to develop it with your will and motivation and if you cannot then take help from someone who can help realize your true worth and help you in developing your self-esteem This feeling is so important in our lives as it’s abundance can give us success and its scarcity can destroy our lives as well. Try to value yourself and your work because no one in this world is born worthless...  everyone is valuable in his/her own way!
